In anticipation of the kickoff for the PWHL launch on January 1st, each day I will highlight a PWHL personality.
Born and raised in Chappaqua, New York, Aerin Frankel’s passion for hockey led her to pursue her dream of becoming a goalie. Initially met with resistance from her parents regarding the position, Aerin was persistent and reached a compromise, splitting her time between skating and goaltending. However, her love for goaltending took the reins, and the rest is history.
Aerin’s journey began at Horace Greeley High School in her hometown before transferring to Shattuck’s St. Mary’s ahead of her sophomore year. Her performance was nothing short of exceptional, boasting dazzling statistics through her three seasons, notably achieving a remarkable .950 save percentage in forty-one games during her first year. Her time there was marked by three consecutive National Championship victories.
Continuing her stellar career, Aerin spent five seasons at Northeastern University, consistently delivering outstanding numbers, culminating in a staggering .956 save percentage in thirty-two games in her final year. Her fourth season saw her being honored with the prestigious Patty Kazmaier Award for the NCAA’s Top Collegiate Player. While representing the Women’s Worlds that season, she did not suit up but got another opportunity the following year.
She joined Team Adidas in the final year of the PWHPA, posting an impressive .937 save percentage in seven games. Also, she clinched a gold medal at the most recent World Championships.
Aerin’s commitment to her sport goes beyond her personal achievements; she is now a part of Ironbound Elite Hockey, dedicating her time to mentoring young goaltending and providing guidance to aspiring players aiming for the NCAA.
Can’t wait to watch this rising star defy expectations for Boston!
